Professionals for the fourth industrial revolution: Are we preparing them?

Reflection on internal actions and their relationship with the development of Employability skills in higher education students. presented by the General Director of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Employability, Sergio Majluf and Ana María Calderón, PhD Education and DIEE headquarters Patagonia, in the Congress Link to the Middle 2020, From ideas to Impact! Organized by the Andrés Bello University.

In the instance, the exhibitor Sergio Majluf, presented the work that the DIEE has done, making known its work model based on looking for curricular and extra-curricular spaces that the careers generate to develop skills related to employability, enhanced by innovation and entrepreneurship. This seeks to project market requirements towards careers, anticipating opportunities from the productive sectors and professional development fields, which strengthen the labor insertion of our graduates.

“To develop this great project that has the DIEE we define employability as the set of achievements - values, skills, knowledge and experiences - developed by students during the Sebastian formative process based on the principles of Christian humanism, which guarantees our graduates autonomy and control over their professional development, placing them in a prominent position to create and offer value to the work environment, excelling in the places where they work, benefiting themselves, their families, region and society of which they are a part ”. Expressed General Director of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Employability, Sergio Majluf. "We must prepare students to believe and offer employment, and not to go out to" ask for work, "he added in his presentation.

To this end, the Department of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Employability participates in important initiatives, among which the Latwork project, the strengthening and support in innovation and entrepreneurship to the careers, the Pre-incubator for USS students, the Punto-Co cowkr in Bellavista, and various talks and mentoring for students to graduate.

Regarding the LATWORK project, with support from the European Union, the way in which the DIEE develops, based on the actions that LATWORK develops, seeks to develop and strengthen research capacities in the field of informal employment, something tremendously necessary above all in the context of the economy of digital platforms, with which they seek to deepen the discussion on employability, the labor market and the impacts that these technologies may have and the changes in the world of work concerning employment.

"Latwork is an important cooperation project with 12 universities in Europe and Latin America that allows us to develop and share good practices to meet and prepare for the world of current employment." Sergio Majluf, General Director of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Employability.

Likewise, on the competences that higher education institutions are forming in future professionals and the measurement of employability competencies, as a necessary work to demonstrate their relationship with social mobility, human development and quality of life. He stressed the importance of preparing professionals with a growth mindset, attentive to disruptive changes and with a critical capacity to ask better questions about the work world to which they will be inserted.
